This presentation will trace trajectories in the through European history from early modernity to today. By looking at the case of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia as one of the longest surviving and still active private social service organization, it allows to contextualize the present political debate about the “Third Sector” and the role of Non-Profits in matters of social welfare. This presentation is part two of a collaborative research with Prof Sá who will concentrate on the early history of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia.
